About

Conditions like anxiety and depression are very common. They can result from trauma, abuse, neglect, challenging life circumstances, or many other things. Counselling provides a safe place from which clients can explore what is going on for them.

My name is Marvin Vandenhoek. I have a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Lethbridge. I am certified as a Canadian Certified Counsellor through the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. I’ve been working in counselling since 2010, with a variety of populations. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is used extensively in my practice to help clients appreciate themselves, embrace emotional honesty, and increase psychological flexibility. A reoccurring theme in counselling is helping clients to become more regulated and widen their window of tolerance.  Clients learn to view themselves in the context of their problems, not as problem themselves. Clients are encouraged to engage in self-compassion and self-care both in session and between sessions. You can read more about me and my counselling framework here.

Counselling rates are $100/session. Rates for clients who qualify as low income are determined on a sliding scale.

Along with traditional office therapy, I also practice Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT). You can read more about this here. Client’s often choose to blend office therapy with animal assisted therapy. We may conduct some sessions at the office in Lethbridge and follow up with some experiential healing work at Blue Rein Ranch.
